smelly shirt update:

ok, so i just took my smelly thrift store shirt out of the washer and took a big whiff..... and almost threw up.

the vinegar didn't work.

any suggestions? It's a really cute shirt!!! I'd rather not throw it away, although that's the kind advice of my sweet husband :)

thrift store shopping drama...

this post is dedicated to Alli, my Megathrift Buddy...

I just keep getting bigger. None of my clothes fit, which is fairly normal for someone who is this pregnant, but I love my clothes, and i miss them. And I am not one of those people who wants to, or can afford to, buy an entirely new maternity wardrobe.

Enter thrift store shopping. I found out before I even started showing (you know, 2 weeks ago, ha) that there is a local thrift store that has a great maternity section. I've gotten several great things from Gap, Old Navy, and Motherhood for $2-$5ish, which is not bad!

The other day, my fellow-preggo friend Allison and I made an impromptu trip to MegaThrift to check out the maternity section. We both left with a few finds and had a great time imagining what kind of people would wear those kind of maternity clothes (you know, the ones we didn't buy...)

Fast forward to this morning.

I pull the shirt out of the dryer (because the first rule of thrifting is to immediately wash all thrifted clothes...) and put it on.

heyyy, i look pretty cute in this shirt! It looks like normal-people clothes, not pregnant elf clothes!

I spend some time giving MC and Jackson directions about getting ready, then hang up my towel from showering.

ughhhh, i need to wash that towel. I thought it was brand-clean; why does it smell like a boda-man?!!? (for you non-ugandans, a boda-man is a bicycle-taxi driver in Uganda. imagine what a man smells like when he spends all day riding a bike with 1-3 passengers on the back up and down the hilly land of the Equator... sans deodorant...)

Throw the towel in the laundry bin and finish getting ready to go to lunch with the kids and my dad. Drive to lunch and mill around the parking lot while we wait for my dad. Decide to use the empty walmart bag and the spare couple of minutes to clean out my floorboard with the help of my kids. Bend over and wonder...

what in my car smells kind of mildewy and funky, like a thrift store??

Keep cleaning out the car. Eventually look over my right shoulder to talk to one or the other of the kids. Nose approaches armpit.

EWWWWW!!! something smells like old meat and onions! The Boda-man smell again! What IS that??? Nooooo!!!! It's me!!!!!

Needless to say, the shirt went back into the laundry pile as soon as we got home. I just keep wondering what kind of person with such a cute fashion sense would have that horrible a smell! (Which, come to think of it, was probably what the people at Waffle House were thinking about me during lunch! Ew!)

I have hopefully find a solution at the bottom of this article... vinegar in the rinse cycle. I am hopeful that my cute cute shirt won't have to go back to the thrift store! In the mean time, I'm headed upstairs for my second shower of the day... wish me luck!

this made me giggle this morning :)

Found this today at happilydomestic.blogspot.com :)

PREGNANCY Q & A

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?
A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?
A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?
A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.
A: So what's your question?

Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but pressure. Is she right?
A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural ?
A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?
A: Not unless the word 'alimony' means anything to you..

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?
A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?
A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?
A: When the kids are in college.

Monday photo recap

Part 1: "I Never Thought I'd Be This Mom..."

Part 2: "This Was A Magical Mailbox Day!"

Phone charger came, meaning that I get to use my new-to-me phone instead of one from 1994...

Also, I got fluffy mail that I bought with the Earth Angels Diaper Co gift certificate I won at Granola Mom 4 God's blog. I was TREMENDOUSLY impressed with the customer service I got from this company. There was a slight (and I mean very slight) delay with my order, and because of it, there were FREEBIES (4 cloth wipes and an insert) in the order! If you are considering cloth diapering, CHECK THIS PLACE OUT.

Thirsties Diaper Cover

GAD Diaper -- this is hands down my favorite diaper i own. hope it's as good at holding poo as it is at being pretty!

Freebies!

I also got the first part of one of the giveaways I won at Bringing Our Baby Home One Day at a Time -- this adorable wipe case from Pitter Patter Lane. Yum!

Part 3: "The Punkin Patch!"

We went to Confluence and let the kids pick out pumpkins, and also took the opportunity to get some festive pics.

We ended up with a pumpkin for each kid :)

long time, no blog...

We love hibernating around here! Since three of the four of us are half sick, and since we accidentally slept through church this morning b/c the kids were being so quiet that Scott and i woke up at 10am, none of us have left the house all weekend. It has been wonderful to just hang out in our sweats.

What have we been up to lately?

Scott is recently into trying to make the perfect hacky sack. He is becoming a great seamster, and his count for kicking the ball without it hitting the ground is going steadily upward.

I am into sleeping. Sophie, not so much.

Mary Cameron is into reading to herself and playing her Nintendo DS. Oh, and also dressing up into her last-year, too-small dance clothes and prancing around the house. She has tried to get Jackson to put tights on. I have said no.

Jackson is into superheroes... Hulk, Spiderman, Superman, Ironman. We haven't gotten his Halloween costume yet, but I can pretty much guarantee that it will be something.... super. His obsession with "cozy" also continues. He would rather be wearing sweats than anything in the world.

On the agenda for this week: 4month old dishwasher getting fixed under warranty, Tucker goes to the vet, cooking the month's worth of dinners we bulk-bought on Friday to make things just a little easier.

I am liking this simple-life stuff. I may keep it.

We're getting ready for you, Sophie Girl!

winnings!

A package just arrived at our door, addressed to Mary Cameron.

Inside was a real live FairyGram that I won in a giveaway at GiveDaddy.com

Gracious, did that girl think she was a diva with the fairy stuff on or what?!!!?
----------------------------------------------------------------

On the same day I won that giveaway, I also one another one at Granola Mom 4 God for a $25 gift certificate to Earth Angels Diaper Co. It was incredibly hard to decide what I wanted to get because EADC has sooo many cute options for diapers, but I finally decided on a GAD pocket diaper in olive and pink and a Thirsties V2 cover in Baby Blue (you know, for the inevitable Carolina outfits Sophie Girl will be wearing!)

Many thanks to the generous bloggers and companies that have HOOKED US UP this week! :)

10.09.2009

This is your friendly weekly reminder to go over to Bringing Our Baby Home and enter to win some amazing stuff by supporting Leigh and Gray's adoption!!!!

$5 enters you to win your choice of giveaways, including lots of etsy stuff as well as an ipod touch. Seriously, check it out.

Oh, and the latest news around that blog is that the giveaway title is now a misnomer.... it should read, "Bringing Our BABIES Home." So if helping to give ONE kid a home wasn't enough for you to go spend 30 seconds of your time and $5 of your money, maybe the fact that you're helping to give LIFE to TWO kids will help to motivate you.

oh, how i love Charlie's Soap and Blog Giveaways

ok y'all, if you are bothered by my shameless giveaway plugs on my blog, you can just skip this post..... but I have had tremendous success entering giveaways (I've won 6 in the past 6 weeks...) lately, so i'm going to keep going, and pass the info on to whoever is interested.

It is no secret that we LOVE Charlie's Soap -- the powdered detergent -- around here, and it works wonders on our clothes with none of the crazy additives (softeners, optical brighteners, etc.) that are put in most detergents.

I am DYING to try the All-Purpose cleaner. I keep hearing that it cleans absolutely anything, including animals, ha :)

I am super excited about the giveaway I just found at Oh Baby Oh, which includes an assortment of C'sS products that I'd love to put to good use! So... I am passing that information along out of pure excitement, and just in case any of you want to go enter too!
